What most coaches and programs don't do is to take hormonal health into consideration when it comes to workouts. Quite simply, physical results will not be able to be achieved and most importantly, maintained, unless hormone levels are taken into consideration. Every day I talk to women who are struggling with their hormonal health. Many don't even realize that their hormones are the underlying root behind many of the issues they are experiencing. 

Bloating, poor sleep, low energy and libido, out of control cravings, painful cramps, irregular menstrual cycles and PMS are just a handful of some of the issues that can indicate hormones that are out of whack.

Women are exhausted and stressed, not seeing the results they want no matter how much they work out, and almost always tell me that they are not seeing results from their workouts. 

The biggest mistake I see is overtraining. Long duration cardio or lift sessions for hours on end, often under-eating, and our bodies fight back. 

There is a huge misconception that working out needs to take hours out of our day, or that we can only get a good workout at the gym. 

How we exercise has an enormous impact on our hormonal health, and most of us are doing it wrong. 

Ladies, don't be afraid to lift heavy weights. 

Lifting weights improves our hormonal regulation, and done correctly this can mean all kinds of positive changes including easier periods, more regular menstrual cycle, fewer cravings, increased libido and both physical and emotional strength and endurance. 

This program requires a pair of dumbbells, 20 minutes of your time, and anywhere between 2 - 3 workouts per week, depending on your body and individual needs.

Meet Emily

Hey there, thanks so much for stopping by!  

I'm Emily Gough, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, certified personal trainer and fitness instructor. I was on birth control pills for eleven years, and experienced a huge number of symptoms while on it that I thought were totally normal.  

After going off the Pill and experiencing amenorrhea (no menstrual cycle for 6+ months), I have been on a mission ever since to find out as much as I can about hormone health and how to support the body naturally, regardless of whether or not you have ever taken hormonal birth control pills.  

A long-time exercise geek, long training sessions and hours of cardio left me exhausted, worn down and feeling worse than ever, and I thought there was something wrong with me. 

After learning more about how exercise impacts our hormonal health, I began experienting with new styles of training that gave me better results and left me energized instead of drained. The best part? Shorter workouts which leave more time for other life priorities, and learning to truly listen to my body along with bringing hormones back into balance.

My mission is to educate women on how to care for their bodies in a way that is enjoyable, along with empowering women to feel comfortable in their own skin using realistic strategies and becoming #HormoneHappy.

Who is Balanced Burn for? 

I've designed Balanced Burn to help women find a way to be consistent about exercise in a way that keeps hormones happy and can be easily performed at home. 

  • Women who want short, effective workouts that they can do at home. The gym can feel intimidating, and overtraining hurts our hormonal health. 
  • Women who are ready to take ownership of their health. This program gives you the tools you need to take responsibility how your body responds to the workouts. 
  • Women who are ready and willing to put in the work to determine what’s going to work the best for YOUR body, and be willing to experiment and pay attention to how they feel with a new way of working out. 
  • Women who are tired of working out regularly and without seeing results. This program is going to challenge you to think about how you work out in a different, more effective way. 
  • Women who have some previous experience exercising. All video demos are included if you're unsure, but the workouts are challenging. 

Who is Balanced Burn NOT for? 

  • It is not for women looking for 1:1 coaching. This program does not include individualized coaching in order to keep costs lower for you. 
  • This program is not for anyone seeking nutrition advice. This one is strictly exercise. 
  • This program is not for women who aren’t willing/ready to be committed, level up and improve their health. 
  • This program is not for women who want to work out 4+ times per week and endless hours at the gym. Less, but more effective is better when it comes to hormone health, and not a single workout will exceed 20 minutes.  


Frequently Asked Questions

What’s included?

12 workouts, 32 video demos, and a lightly suggested workout calendar. Part of this program is figuring out what’s going to work the best for your body though, so the workout calendar may not be applicable and how many times you workout per week is totally based on the biofeedback your body is going to be giving you. 

Do I need to have equipment or access to gym?

I suggest using moderate weight dumbbells. You can do these workouts at a gym if you wish, but it’s not at all necessary. They are designed to be easily performed at home. 

How do I know what weight of dumbbells to use?

If you’re finishing the timed workouts in far less time than suggested, you may need to up your weights. Many women can lift several pounds more than they think they can. 

The opposite is also true, if you’re struggling to even come close to the allotted time frame and finding that you’re having a hard time with the movements, something doesn’t feel right, or if it’s tough for you to keep good form, you may be lifting too heavy and need to go down in weight.  

How long will workouts take?

20 minutes is the longest you will ever workout with this program.  

Is there coaching included? 

No, this is a DIY program and no additional coaching is included. 

However, every participant of the program has the option to sign up for 1:1 coaching calls at a discounted rate. 

Do I need to be experienced at working out? 

I’ve got you covered! Even if you’re new to this type of exercise, I’ve included a video demo for every single movement so that you’ll feel totally comfortable performing the workouts.
